A woodland walk with a woof
When Jess and Ben got in touch with me to arrange their pre-wedding photo shoot they asked ‘can we bring our dog and our horse?’ Now dogs have come along to many photo shoots, but never horses; and of course my immediate reply was ‘hell yes!’ We arranged to meet in Idless Woods, a place that the couple visit regularly with their energetic sproodle, Kali. Unfortunately the horse, Rio, didn’t fancy coming along on this occasion so we continued on without him.
I’d never been to Idless woods before and I was thankful to be introduced to such a beautiful location. Woodlands are my favourite location to photograph in but also my favourite places to go in my spare time too. Idless is clearly one of Kali’s favourite places, it was obvious that she felt at home as she sprinted around the trees. I absolutely love dogs, so it was amazing to have her along with us for the shoot but we were all a little disappointed that Rio didn’t join us for the day. So much so in fact, that Jess and Ben decided to book me in for a second photo shoot a couple of weeks after this shoot so that they could have some photos with Rio involved too. We’ve recently had this second photo shoot and hopefully it won’t be too long before I can share some images with you all from that day too.
It’s worked out really nicely because doing these two photo shoots with the couple before their wedding day has really helped me to get to know them both. It’s strange, I actually feel like I’ve known them for years. From experience I’ve found that when couples get to know me before their wedding they often feel so much more at ease with me on the big day, when nerves and emotions are naturally sky high for couples. I’m looking forward to seeing these two marry each other and capturing it all on camera for them both - having that role at a wedding is honestly such an honour for me and something I will never take for granted.
Here’s a selection from their first shoot with me (I’ll share some from their second shoot in a separate blog once I’ve edited those photos). The couple also decided to have some vintage photos taken at this first shoot and you’ll find those photos at the bottom of the page (they are the black and white square photos). I used my grandad’s Zeiss Ikon Nettar 120 film camera for these old school photos. All my customers can choose to include vintage photography at their photo shoots or weddings - I call it Go Vintage. I adore using my vintage cameras, especially my Zeiss Ikon, which has been in my family since 1955.
