A garden birthday get-together!
I really enjoyed this family photo shoot which took place in a beautiful back garden in Cornwall. I was hired by John and Margaret who wanted some professional family photos done on John's birthday. I've known this family since I was 13 years old as I went to school with John and Margaret's son. It was so lovely to see familiar faces and especially lovely to meet some new additions to the family as well.
I love photographing small family gatherings like this because there's so many photo possibilities for me to capture. We started off with a big group photo of the thirteen of them, and then I worked on some smaller family photos and also captured individual shots of each grandchild. Most family shoots that I do are of one household but with a few present at this photo shoot it meant that each household had their own little photo shoot as well as having photos together. I also made sure to capture some natural photos of the grandchildren playing in the garden.
Not all of the kids were up for having their photos taken, so we had to make sure we didn't overwhelm them with too many photos at once, giving them enough time to have breaks and play in-between photos. There was also a little bit of bribery involved too of course, but you wouldn't tell it looking at the photos as we managed to capture them all with smiling faces.
John and Margaret have received 152 individual photos and a black and white copy of each photo making a total of 304 photos altogether. All their photos are accessible and downloadable for them and their family in high resolution on a private password protected online gallery.
