An Edgcumbe Wedding
You’ll have to forgive me, I haven’t blogged in a looooong time! While many photographers are now done for the year and enjoying catching up on sharing recent work online, I’ve not actually finished with this year’s wedding season yet! I still have two more weddings to photograph before this year is done and I still have a few weddings to finish editing too. This year’s wedding season has been so busy - the busiest ever actually. So things like blogging have had to take a back seat and as a result of that I have so much to share with you all!
I find that blogging takes me a long time, because I have to look through all of the photos from a wedding (and I do take a lot) and pick out my favourites (which is difficult). Then it takes a while to upload them onto my website like this, and I also try to write a few words about the wedding too. So I’ve actually been working on this blog for a few weeks now, just occasionally adding to it when I’ve found a spare moment. It feels so good to be sharing some recent work online again, I say recent… this wedding is actually from July.
It’s a great wedding to blog because there was so much going on for me to capture, starting with the Groom’s arrival on the Cremyll Ferry…
The Ceremony was held at Edgcumbe House and included some personal vows between the happy couple. It was full of beautiful moments, laughter and affection - a photographer’s dream.
When working at Edgcumbe House for ceremonies, there’s a lot to consider in terms of where your photographer should stand and as you can see from these photos, I moved around a bit and managed to capture the ceremony from a few angles. I had a thorough discussion with the couple on the lead up to the wedding to find out what they wanted from me and I explained how best to capture a wedding at Edgcumbe House. We also discussed things that may restrict my movements such as where the registrar may position themselves and where their videographer Byron may be stood. But thorough planning alongside great communication with the venue, registrar and videographer allowed me to capture the venue in all it’s glory for this special unity.
The ceremony was followed by a confetti aisle (which is always expertly arranged by the staff at Edgcumbe House). The couple decided that they wanted all of their group photos taken at the side of the building rather than at the front. And to be honest this suited me because I think the side of the house is actually better suited for group photos due to it not being as wide as the front. This couple took my advice on board when planning their group photos in that they didn’t make their group photo list too long (they only asked for 10 group shots in total) and they allocated a decent amount of time to get the photos done (about 20-30 minutes). This meant I had the opportunity to get a bit creative with some of the group photos as you can see below…
Sarah & Oliver also made sure they had plenty of time for their special Bride & Groom photos around their venue. And when you’ve booked a venue as incredible as Edgcumbe it’s definitely in your best interests to utilise as much of it as you can for your photos. The staff at Edgcumbe are absolutely fantastic as they always arrange for the couple to be driven around in a land rover with their photographer for photos in various locations around the beautiful grounds. On average I’d say we spent around 7-10 minutes at each location you see pictured here. So that’s around 30-40 minutes of photo time and another 10 minutes or so was travel time between locations. My advice is to always allow around 30 minutes for your special ‘just married’ photos and I was over the moon to get that little bit extra with this gorgeous couple. Allowing enough time for these key photos means that we can capture more of your venue and it also means that I can get creative (unfortunately my creativity can really dry up if I’m rushed off my feet with little time to work in).
The Land Rover dropped myself and Byron (the videographer) off at our cars so that we could move our cars closer to The Orangery where the wedding reception was held. The Bride & Groom were dropped off at the Orangery in time for dinner and we caught up with them after their meal for the speeches. After the speeches, the guests enjoyed the sunshine and a gripping game of ‘hook the duck’.
Byron and myself got so lucky with this amazing couple, who let us have another 15 minutes with them for some photos and footage in the surrounding area near The Orangery. What a couple!!
The newlyweds then treated us all to a choreographed first dance back in The Orangery, followed by the fantastic wedding band The California Calling, who really got the party started! It was still quite bright outside when we did the sparkler photo, but the venue needed us to do that photo while they had enough staff on site to assist us all and keep us safe. I still managed to get some nice photos from it, despite the fact that it wasn’t very dark outside.
As you can see here, it really was a fantastic wedding day. When booking Edgcumbe, you know you’re in safe hands and this couple made some brilliant choices with their other wedding suppliers too which all resulted in the perfect day had by all. I urge you to check out Bryon’s videography and if you’d like to see the video he created for this very couple then click here. Byron and myself actually have a package deal that we offer - when we’re both booked together for a wedding we will both discount our full day package by £100 each, saving you £200 in total! You’ll also have peace of mind knowing that your photographer and videographer can work together well as a team.
