A Family Photo Shoot
At the end of April I had the absolute pleasure of capturing some family photos for the Bennetts. Jessica and Craig have seen me at work a couple of times over the last few years (photographing some of their friends weddings) and decided to book me in for a family photo shoot.
Due to wedding photography taking up so much of my time, I only normally take on a few family photoshoots per year. I'm so glad they booked me in when they did as they managed to catch me before wedding season. I hadn't used my camera for business/client purposes in just under six months (due to lockdown) and it felt so good to be back at work, capturing moments and making memories for people again.
We did the shoot at Churchtown Farm, which is a place the Bennetts enjoy family walks. It's a beautiful place with gorgeous views, vast fields and woodland areas too. Unfortunately it was a very windy day for the Bennetts shoot but we managed to make it work by strategically picking out the areas that were sheltered from the strong, cold breeze. Alongside the wind, the Bennetts were also battling with hay fever but you wouldn't tell from looking at the photos, they managed to hold it together really well. Their son Alfie shouted 'nose' every time he needed a tissue, which I thought was pretty cute and to the point. Little explorer Milly wasn't a fan of keeping still for photos. She wanted to move faster than her legs could take her which lead to a few trips and tumbles. Her white tights got muddy during the early stages of the shoot but I tidied them up in photoshop so she still looked her best in the photos. Family photoshoots often have their challenges but it's nothing I'm not used to from capturing weddings. The wind, the hay fever and the wanderlust little girl didn't stop us from creating treasured family photos.
The Bennetts received 147 individual photos and a black and white copy of each photo making a total of 294 photos altogether. All photos have been loaded in high resolution to their very own private online gallery.
Here’s what the Bennetts had to say about their family photoshoot with me…
“We recently had an outdoor family photo shoot with Leah at a location of our choice.
I wasn’t sure how successful a photo shoot with a 4 year old and an 18month old would be (especially after a year of very little interaction with others due to COVID lockdowns). However, there was absolutely no need to worry! Leah is so friendly and was great at making the children feel comfortable in front of the camera. Our shoot was relaxed and we all really enjoyed it.
The photos we received surpassed our expectations. They were all so lovely and Leah had captured lots of special family moments.
Leah is a brilliant photographer and we highly recommend her.”
